01 The story, in three paragraphs

Why everyone keeps coming back.

Nestled in the heart of Pekan Ranau, Sabah, Restaurant Anjung Selera stands out as a beloved local dining spot celebrated for its authentic Malaysian flavors, particularly its diverse nasi campur offerings. This casual yet welcoming eatery invites guests to experience a delightful array of home-style dishes served alongside fragrant, steaming rice. For those seeking variety and bold local tastes, the nasi campur here is a must-try — rich in color, texture, and flavors that dance on the palate.

One standout dish praised by many patrons is the masak lemak nangka, a creamy, coconut-infused jackfruit curry that encapsulates the soul of Sabah’s culinary heritage. The generous portions ensure you leave satisfied without feeling overly stuffed, making it an ideal spot for a hearty lunch or dinner. If you're in the mood for noodles, the bakso (meatball soup) is another gem on the menu. Visitors often describe the broth as crystal-clear with a well-balanced savory taste that warms both body and spirit.

The restaurant also caters to those who prefer a la carte options, allowing diners to customize their meals and bring more variety to the table. While some dishes like the chicken chop may occasionally be unavailable, alternatives such as wantan ho noodle dishes deliver a pleasing twist — the subtly sweet corn flavors and tender noodles offer comforting familiarity with each bite.

Although the dining atmosphere is straightforward and unpretentious, it complements the authentic, no-frills essence of the cuisine served. Be prepared for a lively local environment, where the buzz of friendly chatter fills the air and occasional nature’s surprises like flying insects might appear — a humble reminder of the eatery’s open and organic setting amidst Sabah’s lush surroundings.

With reasonable prices and generous servings, Restaurant Anjung Selera strikes a balance between quality and value. Whether you're a local craving nostalgic flavors or a traveler eager to explore Sabah’s culinary landscape, this spot promises genuine tastes and a fulfilling meal that lingers pleasantly in your memory long after the last bite.

I had bakso and it was amazing. The soup was really good and clear and had a nice taste. Didn’t try anything else so hard to say for the rest of the food there.

Ask for chicken chop but not available, so order wantan ho instead. Took around 20+ minutes. Food was good, a hint of corn sweetness for the wantan ho, would be better if have greater meat portion. A little downhill when eating dinner here was you’ll get free add on insects flying into your food.

It was great. And the food came really fast. Just one more step to get 5 stars. The hot drinks should be hot as per requested. Not warm. As well as the Soto ayam. Hehe.. But it has a great taste

Hidden Gem for Local Flavors: Affordable Eats. I stopped by here specifically for their goreng pisang, but ended up being pleasantly surprised by the variety of dishes they offer. The food is served on trays, making it easy to browse and visually enticing. They even have burgers on the menu! The prices seem very reasonable, perfect for locals and budget-minded tourists who want to try authentic food. Overall, a great recommendation for a delicious and affordable local dining experience. While I didn't try anything besides the goreng pisang, the other options looked equally delicious!
